Carriage of Human Remains
JetLite accepts carriage of Human Remains on it B737 aircraft only. Human Remains cannot be carried on the CRJ200 aircraft as the cargo holds are on the same level as the passenger cabins. Human remains are that category of special loads, which are allocated the lowest priority for offloading. As per Indian Aircraft Rules 1937, human remains will under no circumstances be carried along with passengers in the cabin, unless incase of chartered flight. However dead bodies can be carried as freight on our services in cargo holds as per conditions laid down by the DGCA. Carriage is acceptable only when advance arrangements are made, both at origin and destinations stations. All consignments of human remains must be pre-booked and if carriage involves multiple sectors and different carriers’, confirmation must be obtained as to on-carriage and delivery arrangements in advance.
The charges for the carriage of dead bodies are levied on the full basic freight rates. Necessary Certificates
- Embalming Certificate - Certificate from the hospital/undertaker that has embalmed the dead body
- Local Municipal Certificate - A certificate issued by the responsible Municipal or Government authority of the country from where the package containing the dead body is transported shall accompany the coffin. The certificate shall give full name of the deceased, his/her age at the time of death, and place, date and cause of death, and shall indicate that the coffin conforms to and has been sealed in accordance with the specifications prescribed
- Death Certificate - Certificate stating the name, age, time, cause of death from the hospital/doctor who has pronounced the person dead
- Medical Report (sometimes the Medical Report and Death certificate are combined)
- Police clearance when the cause of death is not due to natural causes. E.g. accident cases/suicide/suspicious causes
- Cancelled passport is required in case of death outside the country. In some cases an Indian Embassy Attestation may accompany the Human Remains if the country from where the Human Remains is being transported requires such registration of death. However, this is not a requirement of JetLite Customs clearance required if death outside the country, for shipment to be treated as local cargo. Ports where customs clearance facility is available within the country shipment can be forwarded as International Bonded Cargo
