Security Regulations prohibit the carriage of weapons in the passenger cabin except in the case of Sky-Marshals and Z-category Security personnel on duty.

Besides actual weapons, certain items are also prohibited from being carried in the passenger cabin. These items are those that may be misused as weapons or resemble weapons.

Bringing a prohibited item to the Passenger and Cabin Baggage Screening point without authorization is a criminal offence and may result in charges and prosecution.

Firearms
According to the Government of India, airlines shall not permit any guest to carry arms and ammunition whether in person or in his / her hand baggage. In such cases, the ammunition is removed from the weapon and kept separately. At the time of baggage screening, the guest must declare that he is carrying firearms / ammunition.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) is statutorily charged with the responsibility of providing security to specified persons. Government instructions stipulate that they are allowed to carry fully unloaded arms as hand baggage while on duty. The ammunition however shall be carried separately. It is the responsibility of the SPG to ensure that on board a commercial flight, the custody of the ammunition is clearly in the hands of the SPG personnel other than those who have the custody of the arms.
